Things I Want My Daughters to Know About Friendship

  1. Understand that not everyone will not like you, and that’s perfectly fine. It may not always seem true, but trust me, it is.

  2. Not everyone will extend invitations to you, and that’s okay too.

  3. Remember, kindness is something you’ll never regret– never, ever.

  4. If you find yourself constantly walking on eggshells around someone, they may not be your true friends.

  5. You have the power to choose your friends, so opt for those who choose you in return.

  6. Hold high standards for your friendships, but remember to be forgiving. People make mistakes, including you. Grace is key.

  7. Embrace your true self and allow others to do the same.

  8. To have friends, you must know how to be a friend. Strive to be the best friend you can be.

  9. Don’t hesitate to take the initiative in reaching out and inviting others.

  10. Remember to listen.

  11. If you want friends to be there for you during big moments, be there for them in the small moments too.

  12. Avoid excluding people intentionally; it doesn’t feel right.

  13. Gossip is harmful, so steer clear of it.

  14. Drama is best avoided. Rise above it and feel free to walk away.

  15. While you can’t be best friends with everyone, you can acknowledge, smile at, greet, and show kindness to everyone.

  16. Authentic love from a few is more valuable than insincere affection from many.

  17. Pursuing popularity for the sake of it is pointless.

  18. Your value doesn’t stem from others’ opinions. Embrace yourself first if you wish others to embrace you.

  19. Give more than you take, but don’t let anyone walk over you. Your worth deserves respect.

  20. Your friends should treat you well and exhibit kindness towards others too. If they speak negatively about others behind their backs, they’re not true friends.

  21. Practice loyalty by standing up for your friends even in their absence.

  22. Friends are not disposable; deep bonds require time and dedication.

  23. If Mom doesn’t approve of someone, there’s likely a good reason.

  24. Investing in friendships is a vital aspect of life. Make time for it.

  25. In times of hurt, I’m here with a hug and a listening ear. Healing takes time, but remember not to isolate yourself. Opening your heart again is with the risk.

My love for you is boundless, to the moon and back.
